  1. Hi Kate,

I read ‘In ecstasy’ and I have chosen it to do for an Australian literature oral for school.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and i was just wondering what the main themes are in the book? Also what do you think makes this novel and your other novels classified as Australian literature apart from the fact that you are Australian?

    Thankyou 😀

    • Hi Hayley,
Thank you for the lovely comment. I’m so glad you liked Destroying Avalon. I too, would love it to become a movie- who knows, maybe one day!!
Keep reading! It’s good for you. If you like my work, you might like Julia Lawrinson, A J Betts and JC Burke- ask your librarian.
      Cheers

  4. Thank you for this wonderful book, Kate.
When I was about 14 as well I read this after being nagged by my teachers to read a book even though I am not in the slightest a humanities based student-in fact I’m studying science at university now. I picked up Destroying Avalon mostly because I saw a computer on the cover and thought perhaps my interest in the internet might help me get through this book. However, to my surprise, I fell in love with the characters and you took me on an emotional journey. It was nice to have the characters to relate to in my own person struggles when I was at school with friends and self-esteem, as well as being able to explore the issues associated with our technological era in a creative but very honest way. Sorry if my poor English skills hinder your understanding of this message. Anyway thank you very much for this lovely book, I hope it gets turned into a movie. Julia xx

  5. Hi I am Airley. I am 13 years old and have read Destroying Avalon. I love it. It really oppen up my eyes to the trust of bullying and how it can effect people. We are doing a talk about a chosen book, I chose Destroying Avalon becuase it is such a great book.
    Airley.

  6. Hello Kate, my name is Helena and I’m 16. My English teacher gave us Destroying Avalon 2 days ago. Whilst reading it I could really connect with Avalon and feel what she was feeling. You know you are reading a good book when you cry more than once. Destroying Avalon was definitely one of those books. It really opened up my eyes to the effects of bullying on people. When **** died, I cried. The book was so well written and I fell in love with the characters. If Avalon liked them I did, if she didn’t, well then I didn’t either.
We started reading the book in school and I read one hour in class that day. Yesterday we read it again in class but I picked it up last night and read the last half of the book until late. I just couldn’t put it down.
Thank you so much for this amazing book!!!

  7. Thank you so much for the book “In Ecstasy”, Ms McCaffrey.
I honestly couldn’t put it down. I take it out whenever I get the chance. Like wow. The writing was direct and real; it wasn’t fake and I could definitely connect with everything you wrote (except for, you know, drugs and stuff).
I hope you keep writing and I want you to know that myself and millions of others will be supporting you.

  8. Hi Kate,
I am Year 10 and I was given your book, Destroying Avalon, as an English Assignment and i have to say it is an amazing book. I am actually writing to you in regards to you expanding the book onwards into a movie. I would absolutely die to see this book as a movie and see the characters come to life. I know it is a huge step but please consider it. I think if you talked to Fremantle Press and asked they would definitely agree to it, it if you say it is for educational purposes. I think this book is extremely relevant at the moment, mainly because of the huge development in technology throughout the past few years.
    Thankyou.
